Financial Empowerment Program

Carver's mission is to assist the community in understanding the basics of banking and credit, building and strengthening small businesses, and achieving and retaining homeownership. In 2006 Carver was awarded a financial assistance grant from the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund which enabled the bank to initiate several programs:

  • Financial Empowerment Workshop Series and Anti-Predatory Awareness Campaign: Launched in 2006, the Financial Empowerment Workshops have been providing ongoing seminars for first time homebuyers, homeowners, seniors and youth to help them understand basic banking and financing terms as well as products and services that will help provide the tools needed to build and sustain wealth. Through our collaboration with the Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement (HCCI), and the Neighborhood Housing Services of Bedford Stuyvesant (NHS) we have provided workshops and one-on-one counseling to over 6000 individuals throughout the City.
  • The Carver Financial Literacy Center: In furtherance of our commitment to financial education, The Carver Financial Literacy Center (FLC) was established in November 2006 and provides a free, technologically updated resource center designed for community residents to receive financial literacy seminars, one-on-one counseling, reading materials, computer programs that will fully assist with answering all questions related to building and maintaining wealth.
  • The Financial Literacy Center is located at:
    300 West 145th Street
    New York, NY 10039
(at the corner of Bradhurst Avenue and West 145th Street.)
